ASFI is a non-profit organization that aims to contribute to Africa’s research strides through capacity building in science and research. ASFI's vision is to raise the next generation of African scientists with the right competencies to drive Africa’s developmental and transformational agenda through innovative scientific research. ASFI's mission is to instil excellence in Africa’s science through competence acquisition, capacity building, and career development, enabling African scientists to increasingly play an active role in the continent's development through evidence-based research. To achieve its goals, ASFI organizes regular research seminars and workshops, hands-on research capacity-building training, mentoring programs, and other research activities.
Since 2023, ASFI is a member-based organization, with members from over 40 countries in Africa. ASFI aims to act as a reference scientific body in Africa in the area of training and continuous education, cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary collaboration, and mentoring. Putting all its activities together, ASFI aims to serve as the most robust platform for African scientists to express themselves at the regionally and international in scientific communication, education, and collaboration. Finally, ASFI aims to serve as a bridge that connects scientists/researchers, policy makers, journalists, governments, the private sector, and other non-profit organizations throughout Africa.

ASFIRJ is the official journal of the African Science Frontiers Initiatives (ASFI). ASFIRJ is an online-only open access multidisciplinary journal. ASFIRJthus aims to advance, impact and communicate research undertaken from all disciplines, both basic and applied research. Within the African scientific community, ASFIRJ aims to offer an unparalleled reach and an author-friendly approach in scientific publishing - from manuscript submission through publication. Its overarching ambition is to be one of the leading research journals from Africa, globally competitive, with an unwavering emphasis on quality research and impact.
ASFIRJ is an international journal, accepting contributions from all countries of the world. ASFIRJ publishes original papers, expert reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, position papers, guidelines, protocols, data, editorials, news and commentaries, research letters. Articles published in ASFIRJ are accepted solely on the basis of their scientific merit and quality.

ASFI also hosts ASFIScholar, a platform that provides African scholars and professionals, home and abroad, a common space to learn, mentor, collaborate, publish and be visible. With ASFIScholar, ASFI creates a community for African scholars that brings learning, teaching, mentoring, collaboration, publishing, and scholarly visibility in one place. ASFIScholar aims to make learning, teaching, and collaboration seamless for African scholars. It aims to catalyze the strength of African scholars, home and in diaspora, to continuously create a community that empowers African scholars to be globally competitive in their fields of scholarship; and a platform that unify African scholarly and research forces to generate innovate research that will add value to the development of our dear continent.

ASFIRJ uses the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license type for the works it publishes. Under this license type, authors agree to make their articles legally available to be reused for any purpose without permission or fees. In this case, anyone can copy, distribute, or reuse ASFIRJ articles, as long as the author and original source are properly cited.
As an Open access journal, all contents published in ASFIRJ are made freely available to anyone anywhere in the world, perpetually. There is no subscription cost to access its content. To achieve this goal, ASFIRJ charges modest article processing fees (APF) to submitting authors across the article types ASFIRJ publishes. The modest APF recognizes the challenges African scholars may face in getting their papers published if higher fees are charged, many of them not having the required external funding to undertake their research. Thus, the APF are pegged to ensure publishing in ASFIRJ is as affordable as possible for every African scholar.
